They say it takes at least 21 days to create a habit. A healthy one at least
Based on the past 10 I’m gonna say it’s will take me way longer than that to create the not-eating-all-of-the-cookies habit I’ve been working on.
I sat at my counter and looked a photos of cookies for 23 minutes on Sunday. And then I cried for another 15.
Crying over cookies is unnatural. Cookies aren’t supposed to make you cry. They’re suppose to make you happy. Sadly, eating all of them all of the time will do both.
Sigh.
But, I am facing the reality of this situation: I did this to myself and now I have to undo it, and if that means I can’t eat all of the cookies then dang it, I CAN’T EAT ALL OF THE COOKIES!
But, I can still eat out!
Occasionally. With purpose.
I can NOT go to Smashburger every other day for shroom burgers, fries, and milkshakes. And passing through the DQ drive thru on the way home from soccer has got to stop.
But, if with a conscientious plan of action and a little forethought, there are plenty of ways to not blow up my progress and still enjoy a meal out with the family.
One where I’m not stuck trying to pretend my naked garden salad is the best meal ever while everyone else stares at me over their juicy steaks or burgers and fries with their guilt eyes.
Instead, I can be full and happy enough that I may have the mental capacity to capture the most lovely photo of my two biggest Dudes looking like they love me and each other and life and steak…
Totally distracted from the fact that I couldn’t enjoy the Blommin’ Onion or the Oreo Cookie mini shakes they ordered.
Fortunately, many restaurants are eager to provide options for those with certain dietary and caloric restrictions. I was happy to discover that Outback Steakhouse is one such place.
Their 600 calorie menu is a great fit for someone like me who is on the Medifast plan. They combine a lean protein with some flavorful green options and you can leave the table satisfied and not the least bit mopey because your meal was too depressing for words.
Honestly, I ordered the grilled chicken on the barbie with an undressed garden salad and I couldn’t even finish it all.
Want to enjoy a family meal at an Outback Steakhouse near you?
If you live near Laurel, Maryland (hi neighbor!) think about popping into the soon to be open one at 14718 Baltimore Avenue Laurel, MD 20707. Their opening day is 1/21/15 and 50% of the day’s proceeds will be going to childhood cancer research at Johns Hopkins.
Also, I have a $50 gift card to give you (which you can use at any Outback Steakhouse you want).
Eat free, do good, lose weight. It’s like a dream come true!
